Catherine's First Half

Catherine has been running with a track team for a little while now.  This year they were going to be visiting during the half, so I asked her if she wanted to run it.  I was planning on running with her, but she told me I should just run, that she would be fine by herself.  It was pouring rain when we went to pick up our packets so I was a little worried about race day, but it turned out to be beautiful!  Catherine ran 1:58.  Pretty stinking amazing for being (almost) 12 years old!  I can't wait for her to get older and run more!  It is hard to believe that she was just 2 and in love with the "purple bacuum" when I met Matt.

My race was less than stellar and I was a little disappointed in myself, but I guess that happens when you don't train.  I really wanted to keep up with Amy Zollinger, but after the first mile I knew there was no way that was going to happen.  Someday!  Then, I was trying to keep up with the girl in front of me for most of the race and I finally took my headphones out and started talking to her to distract myself.  We ended up finishing in 1:35, and sprinted the last 200 yards because neither of us wanted to get beat :-).  I still placed 3rd in my age division and I was pretty ticked that I had to stay for awards after I had a bad day.  The girl I ran with came up to talk to me after the race and it turns out she just moved here from New Zealand and asked if I would like to run sometimes.  Since Meridith is pregnant and out of commission it will be fun to have a new running friend!
